西表島船浮に渡る（沖縄音楽情報のんかあDEEPS！）

西表島船浮に渡る

3/29の朝、西表島の北西部にある陸の孤島、船浮（ふなうき）集落へいよいよ渡る。白浜集落から船で10分足らずだが、定期便は１日３往復のみ。朝8時35分白浜発の便に乗船客は私ひとり。ん～まるで貸し切りチャーター便でリッチな気分(?!)。貸し切り料金は410円ナリ。出発してまもなく前方に船浮集落が見えてくる。

上陸後、まずは集落を突き抜けて細い山道を10分ほど歩いたところにあるイダ浜へ（写真右上）。白い砂と波の音以外はなにもない浜。しばらくボケーッと呆ける。静かすぎてちょっとこわくなり、集落に戻る。

集落の端っこにあるのが船浮小中学校（写真左下）。あのメガネ一番の池田卓さんが通っていた学校だ。日曜かつ春休みなので誰もいないかと思いきや、職員室で校長先生がお仕事中。ご挨拶して、集落での暮らしや、生徒さんのことなどをいろいろ教えていただく。

現在生徒は小中あわせて５名（うち２組は兄弟なので実質３世帯のみ）。そのため、やはり廃校の危機にあるそうで、子持ちの教師に転任してきてもらったり、集落の祖父母の家に一時的に孫を住まわせたり、いろいろ案を講じているそうだ。しかしながらいまは生徒５名以外に１歳の赤ちゃんしか集落にはいないので、非常に将来はキビシイもよう。学校職員は11名（生徒より多い！）で、数年ごとに転勤になるのが普通らしい。校長先生もまだ来て２年目で、もとは読谷出身とのこと。

帰りの船は10時35分発。２時間足らずの滞在だったが、集落のなかの静かな時の流れを少し感じることができた気がする。まあ住めばまた違った面もあるのだろうが。

ところで、今回利用した船を運航している船浮海運は、じつは池田卓さんのお父さんが経営。西表ではどこでも池田さんの評判は非常に高く「池田さんとこは、みんないいひとばっかりさー」という言葉が印象に残ったのだった。
