根間楽器 in 石垣島

3/28～31の間、沖縄八重山へ。今回のメインは佐渡山豊さんの西表島での初ライヴだが、この機会に前回（１月）果たせなかったことにチャレンジ。それはなにかというと、西表島の陸の孤島船浮（ふなうき）に渡ることと、西表島の白浜旧道のホタルを見ることと、波照間島に渡ってパナヌファのお二人に会うこと、そして石垣島の地元楽器店「根間楽器」にご挨拶に行くことの４つ（残念ながら鳩間島上陸は今回も断念）。

初日は石垣島に着いてすぐ根間楽器に直行。２代目店主の根間律（ただし）さんにご挨拶して、現在の八重山ミュージックシーンについてお話をうかがう。2月にテイチクから出たビギンのカバーアルバム２枚も、根間さんが企画の中心人物。根間さん自身もB-SHOPというバンドで参加している。最近の石垣出身の若手バンドはなかなか活発に動いてるらしい。やなわらばー、8days funciton、BUBBLEGUM、MUTO-などの情報もいろいろ教えてもらって大感謝。これらのバンド＆ユニットは、3/31テレ朝系で放送の「Street Fighters@石垣」に出演するとのこと。

そのほか、お店の棚には初めて見る地元ミュージシャンのCDがワンサカで圧倒される。元コンディショングリーンの神鬼（シンキ）さんのCD「神鬼芸術」も初めて知った。また、今年１月に復刻CD「チバリヨー!」を出した川門正彦さんは根間楽器の目と鼻の先に住んでいるそうだ。

最終便で石垣港から西表島へ。上原航路は欠航だそうで、大原港に到着。船会社の無料送迎マイクロバスで白浜まで１時間（島を半周）。運転手のおばちゃんがとばすとばす。船酔いはしなかったのに、バス酔いになりかかる。満員だった乗客は船浦や祖内（那良伊千鳥さんの故郷）で全員降り、終点の白浜まで乗ったのは自分ひとりだけ。宿の前で降ろしてもらう。

今夜の宿の金城旅館のおかみさんはネイチャーガイドもやっていて、白浜旧道で見られるホタルならすべておまかせ。夕食後すぐに連れて行ってもらうことに。いったん「南ぬ風」（まーちゃんの実家経営のペンション）に寄ってツアー客を拾い、いよいよウォッチングポイントへ。おー、すごい！道路脇の藪に点滅するホタルの群れ。いま見れるホタルは体長5mmほどの小ささだが、意外なほどの明るさ。そのほか、ヤエヤマオオコウモリがデイゴの花の蜜を吸うため飛び回っていたりと、さすがにイリオモテは自然の宝庫。さて、明日はいよいよ船浮上陸。
